AMD Dragon Range claims performance crown at less power than Intel Raptor Lake-HX

The Notebook check team has now put the 16 core zen 4 Raphael through its paces testin the brand new Asus ROG Zephrus Duo. The CPU performance is the sole focus of todays review gaming performance will be converted in greater detail later ( though they did provide a teaser). 

The Ryzen 9 7945HX the flagship model in the 7045 series performs nearly as well in the single core test is it does in the multi core test as the flagship intel core 19-13980HX CPU. In both ratings the two processors trade places with a gap of up to 5%.

It is important to note that DDR 4-4800 memory is used in the ROG Zephyrus Duo whereas    DDR5-5600 memory is used in the faster MSI TITAN GT77 HX 13 VI which is the platform for the intel HX series.


  In contrast to intels hybrid core/Atom architecture the AMD CPU has 16 cores and 32 threads that are big cores. This indicates that AMD CPUs performance in the multi core test should not come as a surprise even though the thread count is the same.

Importantly Ryzen 9 7945HX uses less power than the intel 13 Generation core HX series. The reviewer even tested both CPUs with the same power limitation and came to the conclusion that the Zen4 architecture is 22% faster if both CPUs are limited to 120W.

Tested with the same Asus ROG Duo laptop from 2022 (the title on this slide is incorrect) the CPU is also significantly faster then the previous generation Ryzen 9 6900HX Rembrandt Zen3 SKU.


Additionally the site provided a brief overview of gaming performance with additional tests coming in the future. Gaming performance on intel CPUs improves by up to 7% with increased power and single core frequency. Geforce RTX 4090 GPUs are supported by both MSI and Asus systems up to 175W TGP but there maybe other factors at play which will be discussed in detail in the full review.
